About this tool
Fuel / Trip Cost Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that works out how much fuel a trip will use and what it will cost, in metric (km, L/100km, price per litre) or imperial (miles, mpg, price per gallon) units.
In metric mode fuel used is distance × (L/100km) ÷ 100; in imperial mode it is distance ÷ mpg. Multiplying by your local fuel price gives the total, which is also split per passenger for carpooling and shown as a cost per km or per mile.
Type in the round-trip distance before a road trip, or your daily commute distance to see what a week of driving costs. Everything runs locally in your browser with your own fuel price — nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Which units does the calculator support?
Metric mode uses kilometres, litres per 100 km and price per litre; imperial mode uses miles, miles per gallon and price per gallon. Switch the unit selector and the labels update — re-enter your numbers in the new units.
How is the per-person cost calculated?
The total fuel cost is divided evenly by the number of people sharing the ride. Set passengers to 1 to see the full cost.
Why is there no currency symbol?
The tool is currency-agnostic: enter the fuel price in your own currency and every result is in that same currency.
Does this account for real-world driving conditions?
It uses the fuel efficiency you enter, so use a realistic figure — highway, city, load and weather can change consumption by 20% or more versus the manufacturer rating.
