About this tool
A webcam test shows you exactly what your camera sees so you can check framing, lighting, focus and image quality before a video call, interview or stream. Press start, allow camera access when your browser asks, and the live preview appears along with the active resolution, frame rate and camera name read straight from the video stream.
If you have more than one camera — a laptop's built-in one plus an external USB webcam, for example — a picker appears so you can switch between them and compare. The mirror toggle flips the preview horizontally, matching how most meeting apps display your self-view, and the snapshot button saves a full-resolution PNG frame to your device so you can inspect sharpness or keep a test still.
The video feed never leaves your device: it flows directly from the camera to the page in your browser, and this site's security policy blocks uploads to any server. Nothing is recorded, transmitted or stored — closing the page or pressing stop turns the camera (and its indicator light) off.

The test says access was denied — how do I fix it?
Your browser blocked the camera for this site. Click the camera icon in the address bar (or open the browser's site settings), allow camera access, then press start again. Also check your operating system's privacy settings let your browser use the camera.
Is my video recorded or sent anywhere?
No. The feed goes straight from your camera to the preview in your own browser, and the site's Content Security Policy blocks any upload — nothing is recorded and no video can leave your device. Stopping the test releases the camera immediately.
Why is the preview mirrored?
Mirroring makes the self-view feel natural, like looking in a mirror, and it is how most video-call apps show you to yourself. Other people see the unmirrored image; use the toggle to preview either orientation. Snapshots are saved exactly as previewed.
Why is the resolution or frame rate lower than my camera's spec?
Browsers pick a default capture mode, often 640×480 or 1280×720, rather than the camera's maximum, and dim lighting can make a camera halve its frame rate to brighten the image. The readout shows the mode actually being captured right now.
