Sales Commission Calculator

Calculate sales commission by flat rate, marginal tiers, base plus commission, or a cap — with total pay and effective rate.

About this tool

Sales Commission Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that works out commission earned under four common pay structures: a flat rate, marginal tiers, a base salary plus commission, or a capped plan. Pick a mode, enter your sales, and the commission, total pay and effective rate update live. Nothing is uploaded — all math runs on your device.

Flat rate is simply sales × rate ÷ 100. Tiered mode uses marginal brackets: each bracket has a threshold and a rate, and each rate applies only to the portion of sales that falls within that bracket, exactly like progressive tax brackets. Base plus commission adds a fixed salary to the flat commission, and capped mode limits the commission to a maximum. The effective rate tile is commission ÷ sales × 100, so you can compare plans on one scale.

Use it to check a commission statement, model a new comp plan, or see how tiers reward higher sales. Add or remove tier rows to match your plan, and the marginal calculation credits each threshold's rate to the sales above it.

Frequently asked questions

How do the marginal tiers work?
Each tier applies its rate only to the sales between its threshold and the next tier's threshold — not to your whole sales figure. For example, sales above 50,000 are paid at the top tier's rate, while the amount below is paid at the lower tiers' rates, added together.
What does the effective rate mean?
It is total commission divided by sales, shown as a percentage. For a flat plan it equals the flat rate; for a tiered plan it is a blended rate that rises as more of your sales reach higher brackets.
Is the base salary included in the effective rate?
No. The effective rate reflects only the commission portion as a percentage of sales. The base salary is added separately into the total pay tile.
Are my sales figures uploaded?
No. Sales, rates and tier tables are all computed locally in your browser and never leave your device.
