Shoot Storage / GB per Shoot Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that estimates how much card and disk space a shoot will fill. Enter a photo count or a video length and it returns the total gigabytes and how many memory cards you need. Nothing is uploaded — all figures are computed locally.
For photos, total size = number of shots × average file size, and total GB = total MB ÷ 1024. If you don't know your average file size, estimate it from megapixels, bit depth and format: RAW ≈ pixels × bit-depth ÷ 8 (compressed RAW ≈ 60% of that), while JPEG is roughly 0.45 bytes/pixel at high quality and 0.22 at standard quality. For video, size in MB = bitrate (Mbps) × seconds ÷ 8. Cards needed = ceil(total GB ÷ card size).

How is a RAW or JPEG file size estimated?
RAW ≈ pixels × bit-depth ÷ 8 (compressed RAW is about 60% of the uncompressed figure); high-quality JPEG is roughly 0.45 bytes per pixel and standard JPEG about 0.22. These are typical averages — your camera's real files vary with scene detail and settings.
How is video file size calculated?
Size in megabytes equals bitrate in Mbps × duration in seconds ÷ 8, because 8 bits make a byte. A 100 Mbps clip records about 750 MB per minute, so bitrate drives storage far more than resolution alone.
How many memory cards will I need?
The tool divides total gigabytes by your card size and rounds up, so you always have enough capacity. Carry a spare beyond that: cards should never be filled to the last byte in the field.
Are my shoot details sent anywhere?
No. You enter counts, sizes and bitrates and everything is computed in your browser. Nothing about your shoot is uploaded.
