About this tool
The Test Grade Calculator is a free, in-browser easy grader for teachers and students. Enter the number of questions on the test and how many were answered wrong (or right) to get the percentage score and letter grade immediately.
Below the score it prints the full grading chart — every possible number wrong with its percentage and letter — so a teacher can grade an entire stack of papers from one table. Letter cutoffs are editable to match any grading scale.
All grading happens locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How is the score calculated?
Score = correct answers ÷ total questions × 100. Switch the selector to tell the tool whether the count you entered is questions wrong or questions right.
Can I change the letter grade scale?
Yes. Edit the cutoffs field (e.g. A=90, B=80, C=70, D=60); scores below the lowest cutoff show as F.
How do I use the chart to grade a stack of tests?
Set the total questions once, then read each paper's letter and percentage straight off the row matching its number wrong — your current entry is highlighted in bold.
Are partial-credit or half-wrong answers supported?
The counts must be whole numbers of questions (up to 500). For partial credit, compute the earned points as a percentage with the weighted grade calculator instead.
