About this tool
Sod Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that works out how much sod to buy for a new lawn. Add one or more rectangular sections by length and width, set a waste percentage, and it returns the total area plus the rolls and pallets to order. Everything is computed locally — nothing you enter is uploaded.
Each section's area is length × width, and the tool sums every section you add. The adjusted area is total area × (1 + waste ÷ 100) to cover trimming and odd shapes. Rolls needed = ceil(adjusted area ÷ roll coverage) and pallets = ceil(adjusted area ÷ pallet coverage), both rounded up because sod is sold in whole rolls and pallets. Defaults are 5% waste, 10 ft² per roll and 450 ft² per pallet, which you can change to match your supplier.
Use the Add area button to total an L-shaped yard or several separate beds in one calculation. Order by the pallet for large lawns and by the roll for small patches or repairs, and lay fresh sod the same day it arrives.
