About this tool
The True Shooting %, eFG% & Usage Calculator computes the advanced efficiency metrics that go beyond raw field-goal percentage. From a player's points, field-goal attempts and makes, three-pointers made, free-throw attempts, turnovers and minutes it derives True Shooting percentage and effective field-goal percentage; add the team's totals and it also computes usage rate.
Effective field-goal percentage is eFG% = (FGM + 0.5·3PM) / FGA, which credits a three-pointer as worth 1.5 times a two since it scores an extra point. True Shooting percentage folds in free throws: TS% = PTS / (2·(FGA + 0.44·FTA)), where the 0.44 coefficient estimates how many possessions a set of free-throw attempts represents. Both are expressed as percentages, and a TS% above roughly 58-60% is considered very efficient scoring.
Usage rate estimates the share of team possessions a player uses while on the floor: Usage% = 100 × ((FGA + 0.44·FTA + TOV) × (TmMP/5)) / (MP × (TmFGA + 0.44·TmFTA + TmTOV)). It needs the player's minutes plus the team's field-goal attempts, free-throw attempts, turnovers and total minutes. All calculations run locally in your browser, and the team section is optional — leave it blank and you still get TS% and eFG% from the player line alone.
