About this tool
Ingredient Substitution Finder is a free, in-browser lookup for common cooking and baking swaps. Type an ingredient you are missing and it shows tested replacements with quantities — for example buttermilk, eggs, baking powder, cornstarch, heavy cream, brown sugar, butter and honey. The whole list is built into the page; nothing is fetched or uploaded.
There is no math to get wrong: the tool filters a curated table of roughly 27 substitutions by matching your search against the ingredient name and the replacement text, then lists every match. Each entry gives a proportion — such as 1 cup buttermilk = 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar topped up with milk to 1 cup — so you can scale it to your recipe.
Use the copy button to grab the results for your notes or shopping list. Leave the box empty to browse the full list, or type a few letters to narrow it. Substitutions change texture and flavour slightly, so treat them as good working equivalents rather than perfect replacements.
