Treadmill Pace & Incline Converter

Convert treadmill speed to running pace per mile and per km, switch mph and kph, and get an incline-adjusted equivalent pace.

About this tool

The Treadmill Pace Converter turns a treadmill's speed into your running pace and shows the same effort in both mile and kilometre terms, plus an incline-adjusted equivalent. It runs entirely in your browser with nothing uploaded.

Pace is 60 ÷ speed: at 6 mph that is 60 ÷ 6 = 10:00 per mile. Speed is converted between units with 1 mph = 1.60934 kph, so a per-mile and per-km pace are always shown together. Running on an incline is harder than flat ground, so the equivalent flat speed is approximated as speed × (1 + 0.03 × grade%), and the tool reports the flat pace that roughly matches that effort. Incline is optional — leave it at 0 for a flat run.

Use it to plan treadmill sessions to an outdoor pace goal, or to compare machines that read in different units. The incline adjustment is a rough rule of thumb, not a lab measurement. This is general fitness information, not medical advice.

Frequently asked questions

How is pace calculated from speed?
Pace is 60 divided by speed. At 6 mph that is 60 ÷ 6 = 10 minutes per mile; at 10 kph it is 60 ÷ 10 = 6 minutes per kilometre. The result is shown as minutes:seconds.
How do you convert mph and kph?
One mile per hour equals 1.60934 kilometres per hour. The tool converts your speed so it can display pace per mile and per kilometre at the same time.
What does the incline adjustment do?
Running uphill costs more effort, so the equivalent flat speed is estimated as speed × (1 + 0.03 × grade%). It gives a rough flat-ground pace that feels similar, not an exact figure.
Do I have to enter an incline?
No. Incline is optional and defaults to 0% for flat running. Add a grade only if your treadmill is raised and you want the equivalent flat pace.
